The issue……

A major Energy company operating on a global scale were struggling to gain visibility and to implement appropriate actions to address a variety of business threats within the Central and Eastern European markets.
Bribery, harassment, stealing, deviation of funds and resources were significant compliance issues and tangible threats that the corporation were aware of on an increasingly concerning scale but unable to detect or address. The financial loss for the company was in the region of 500,000 EUR per month. The corporation had tried internally to investigate the allegations, gather evidence and bring to an end all illegal and unethical activities within its structure, however their efforts over an extended period of time had failed to deliver any positive results or improvements

The specialised investigation……

C3i were engaged to perform investigations, information gathering, analysis and where appropriate provide recommendation and evidence to enable the company to deal withe the issues directly and cease the activities.
C3i gained access to аn internal whistleblower (asset) whom we developed to provide initial information and general indications of the supposed committed crimes and individuals involved.
Our International multi-disciplined team established an investigation spanning across multiple countries. In the course of the assignment we engaged more than 40 professionals - investigators, analysts, source handlers, protection officers/bodyguards and covert operators. An undercover network of internal sources and informants was developed and managed by appropriate source handlers independent from the management structure.
Ultimately the overall investigation culminated in a coordinated operation conducted from a remote command and control centre. The final stage operation targeted three locations simultaneously.
During this final stage C3i and the operations team took control of warehouses and seized computers and company assets (high value assets labelled as scrap/amortised and prepared for illegal sales). All evidence was packed, categorised and stored according to the highest investigation standards with the scope to be used in further potential criminal and law suits
In addition several company employees from all levels of the staff and leadership structure were interviewed without notice. The interviews were conducted as per the highest professional standards and provided significant insight and information concerning corrupt practices and involved individuals internal and external to the company.

The regaining of control……

C3i compiled and structured a full case file and report. The client took confidence from the report and then quickly implemented the recommended measures to protect the company corporate and public image, and also to preserve further major resources from being misappropriated.
Several employees were transferred, dismissed or relocated. Within weeks of the C3i recommendations and subsequent interventions the company returned to the required revenue standards and to implement bottom-to-top controls and monitoring rules that allowed the brand to sell a major part of their European presence for a significant profit after severe due-diligence from the buyer.
